Senior Java/J2EE Engineer

This Senior Java/J2EE Engineer plays a lead technical role throughout projects, from advisory and requirements gathering to hands-on analysis, design, implementation, and deployment.

Responsibilities:

  • First and foremost, the Senior Java/J2EE Engineer builds/implements software applications that realize the technical architecture and business requirements
  • Works with clients to determine technical requirements and constraints for a project
  • Designs appropriate technical solutions to meet client business requirements, leveraging available products/packages where appropriate
  • Prepares technical documentation for the project, including component design specifications Works with the Project Manager to determine project schedules
  • Facilitates transition of the solution to the client team or hosting environment A Senior Java/J2EE Engineer should have breadth and depth of knowledge in all technical aspects of Web and application development, including:
  • J2EE architectures, application servers, and common frameworks
  • Design patterns and development best practices
  • Deployment architectures
  • Database design
  • Security considerations in application design and deployment

Qualifications:

  • MS or BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Strong expertise in Java, J2EE, SQL and XML/XSL, with a minimum of 4 years' experience (6+ preferred). Certification in mentioned technologies is desired
  • 4+ years' experience with OOA&D (Object Oriented Analysis & Design) and UML
  • 2+ years' experience with application servers such as Apache Tomcat, JBoss, IBM WebSphere or BEA Weblogic
  • Experience with common Java Frameworks such as Struts and Spring
  • Experience with data access technologies such as iBatis SQL Maps and/or Hibernate
  • Experience with common Java IDEs and tools such as Apache Ant, JUnit, and Cactus
  • Experience with database technologies, i.e. Oracle, SQL Server, and/or MySQL
  • Previous experience integrating content management systems, CRM systems, and workflow / alert engines such as Documentum's BPM or Vigilance is preferred
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to interact with clients and communicate technical vision to the development team
  • Leadership experience on previous projects
  • Experience with both Microsoft technologies and J2EE development is preferred
